The alternator is the second: copper windings and a proper AVR hold voltage steady when a motor starts, which is what protects the equipment downstream.

After that come the things buyers often forget to budget for. A sound-attenuated canopy adds meaningfully to the cost but is non-negotiable near guest rooms, wards or offices. An ATS panel — the automatic transfer switch that starts the set and takes the load when the grid fails — is a separate line item and is what turns a generator into genuine backup power. Sizing before shopping

The most expensive mistake in this market is buying on price per kVA and discovering the set cannot start the load.
