Specifications

How a generator is sized

Every quotation is built from the load you actually run, not from a price list. An undersized set trips on starting current; an oversized set wet-stacks and wastes fuel.

What we size against

Load: The connected load in kW, and the starting current of the largest motor on it
Duty: Standby, prime or continuous — the rating changes with how long it runs
Site: Altitude, ambient temperature and ventilation; Kampala sits near 1,200 m, which derates a set
Fuel: Tank size and the run hours you need between refills
Transfer: Manual changeover, or an automatic transfer switch that starts the set on its own
Enclosure: Open set, or a sound-attenuated canopy where noise is a planning condition

Generating sets can be acquired outright or through asset finance arranged with Ugandan lenders. We prepare the quotation, specification and delivery schedule that a financier requires, and can supply proforma documentation for tender and procurement processes. Talk to us about terms before you commit to a rating — rating and duty affect financing as much as price.

Is Jamali Tech an authorised Ashok Leyland distributor in Uganda?

What size generator do I need?

It depends on the load you actually run, and on what starts across it. Add up the running kW, then allow for the starting current of the largest motor - a borehole pump or a compressor can draw several times its running current for a moment. Send us a list of what the set has to carry and we will size it rather than sell you a number.

Will the generator start on its own when the power cuts?

Only if it is supplied with an automatic transfer switch. With a manual changeover somebody has to walk to the set and start it. For a clinic, a cold room or a server, specify the transfer switch at quotation - retrofitting one later costs more than including it.

Do you install and commission, or only supply?

We supply, install and commission, then hand the set over load-tested and working. Installation covers positioning, connection, exhaust and ventilation, and the changeover or transfer arrangement.

Can you service a set that is already installed?

Yes. We service and repair generators in Kampala and upcountry, and hold service parts locally. If the set was bought elsewhere, tell us the make and rating and we will confirm what we can carry before you rely on us for it.
